Tacos in Brixton? Yeah, and they were pretty fuggin' good!
Maria Sabina is located inside of "Pop Brixton", a shipping container park filled with local shopping spots, a record store, bars, and a huge amount of unique foodie spots. I walked past Maria Sabina and the smell of fresh pork carnitas and El Pastor cooking into the open air locked me in and took my money.
They only sell their tacos in groups of threes or sixes and you can't mix and match, which was kind of annoying. I ordered three El Pastor tacos, with thinly sliced marinated pork covered in a combination of dried chilies, spices, and pineapples. The meat was super tender and the toppings were very fresh, however, I wasn't feeling the tortillas. I couldn't tell if they were day olds or just overheated to the point of staleness.
But stale tortillas aren't enough to detour me from going back to Maria Sabina's, this would be my staple taco spot if I lived in the neighborhood! Maria Sabina, tienes mi corazón! -

One cold night, post crazy golf, my friend and I set off in search in food.. She recommended going to Pop Brixton, and while we were there we stumbled upon this gem!
As everyone knows by now, I'm a crazy fan of Mexican food and this place certainly didn't disappoint. The tacos were full of flavours and hot enough to keep my inner chilli happy! We ordered a selection of tacos to taste, as it was Taco Tuesday and I'd highly recommend following suit when you come! You get to try everything, including the grasshopper tacos, which are crunchy and a very interesting taste, certainly something to explore if you're adventurous! Last but not least, the guacamole was fabulous, every bit as tasty as you'd expect from a authentic Mexican street food stall! -

This is a sad day for me..... I really wanted to give this higher marks however, there were too many flaws in my meal for me to overlook them.
OK let's start with the bad then end with the good!
The tacos were too wet !! Not wet in a juicy way from all the tasty sauces that would drip down a hairy man's beard ... In a the tacos were toooooo wet way! The water they stored them in had seeped into the tacos and so with every bite I got a gallon of water ... Sad times!
I wasn't thrilled about the texture of their chicken either! I have teeth and I'd like to use them...
ON A PLUS SIDE!! their hot salsa was to absolutely die for!! Even though it set my mouth on fire,FLAME ON!!!...... but guess what? I didn't bloody care!!!!! It tasted that good!! I kept on lathering up my tacos with it and sipped my cocktail for respite when things got too heated.
So yeah some good some bad but yeah lol
These are desert savers! If you're ever trapped in the sahara take these babies with you and you will live!!!! -

Hmmmm.
As far as tacos go, ive had way way way better.
These were extremely mediocre and didnt make me want to book tickets to mexico.
In case you were wondering. . . . .
The service was fast, but the tacos were extremely wet. Yes i know im an expressive reviewer but im not exaggerating when i say that my tacos were practically floating on the plate. There was water and juice everywhere!
The chicken was mushy, there wasnt enough crunch from the salad to even it out. so every mouthful tasted the same.
Overall i didnt really enjoy the experience, the only thing that saved it was the spicy sauce i added.
Which was absolutely Yum.
Would i go back ?
No.
Would i go back and attempt to buy the sauce?
Yes -

Been here a couple of times now, and been pretty happy about the food on offer here. The tacos definitely hit the spot if you're looking for Mexican themed food, but I wouldn't call them the best tacos - as echoed by some of the others here.
Chorizo is the best taco, and the veggie one was disappointing. The guacamole is great though, and would definitely go back for that alone! Otherwise, I'd probably only come back just on Taco tuesdays to take advantage of the deal they do!
Otherwise the food is average to good, and not something I'd particularly go out of my way for. Defo worth trying, especially with their salsa and guac - but don't expect perfection!
